An ikebana New Year arrangement doesn’t just enhance a space. It marks the turning of the seasons, offering a moment to pause, breathe, and welcome what’s ahead with grace and gratitude.

While these New Year pieces honor classic symbolism, Sogetsu ikebana blends tradition with the school’s belief that “Ikebana can be done by anyone, anywhere, with anything.”

Plum blossoms and chrysanthemums play an important role in most New Year floral displays.
Plum blossoms and chrysanthemums play an important role in most New Year floral displays.

New Year arrangements usually feature a trio of materials known as shōchikubai, the "three friends of winter," pine (matsu), bamboo (take) and plum blossoms (ume). Chrysanthemums also figure prominently.

This promises to be an inspiring session culminating in arrangements that you will be proud to take home for display!
